The Future of Tourism in Southwest Asia

February 18, 2022 / 11:00 am

As the world begins to reopen and travel resumes, we checked in with tourism professionals from Iraqi Kurdistan, Turkey, and Palestine. Tourism is an important industry in the region, and the onset of the pandemic was financially devastating to many who rely on tourists for their income. Omer Chomani (VI Kurdistan), Kate Clow (Culture Routes Society), and Dimitri Khashram (Aeolus Tours) weathered the COVID-19 storm and in spite of the challenges of the last two years, are preparing for travelers to return to their respective countries.  We chatted about the preconceived notions surrounding safety and security in the region, and the importance of keeping an open mind when travelling. Our guests shared photos and spoke about local dishes to sample, sites to visit, and the people you'll meet throughout your journey.
