API’s staff have decades of regional experience in journalism, local community development, humanitarian relief, and business.
Anisa Mehdi, President and Executive Director, brings a lifetime of interest in and concern for Southwest Asia to the Abraham Path Initiative. People connect on the path and shed preconceptions. An Iraqi-American with Muslim and Christian upbringing, Anisa appreciates the nuances of regional cultures and tensions. She has negotiated entrée to many hard-to-access people and places. For more than 20 years Anisa worked in mainstream American news media as a broadcast journalist and producer. She won two Emmys, a CINE Golden Eagle, and numerous prizes from the Society of Professional Journalists for reporting on religion and the arts. Her credits include National Geographic, 60 Minutes, PBS, NPR, and ABC News Nightline. Anisa is an alumna of Wellesley College and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She spent her junior year of college in Seville, Spain and was a 2009-2010 Fulbright Scholar in Jordan.
Director of Operations
Benjamin Barrows, Director of Operations, is a leader with expertise in economic development and disaster risk reduction. He has worked in Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Sudan, Philippines, southern Africa and Central Asia, and many other countries, bringing a world of intercultural experiences to share with API’s team. Ben has an MA in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
