The Masar Ibrahim al Khalil offers travellers a rare opportunity to go beyond the headlines and the stereotypes, to get away from the conventional holy land tour itineraries, and to explore for themselves the remarkable landscape, people, and culture of Palestine. Results to Date:

  • In July 2008 the first international youth walk pioneered the newly opened 50 km section of the path through the heart of the West Bank.
  • The Palestine team has forged relationships with influential partners, including the Ministry of Tourism.
  • The second annual meeting of the Masar Ibrahim al Khalil in Bethlehem, led by the Minister of Tourism, united dozens of public, private and non-profit sector partners.
  • The Palestine team has led local walks with youth of all ages, including school children.
  • Youth leaders active in Palestinian communities have become ambassadors to universities in the US, and are hopeful emissaries to the 2009 Harvard Bridge Builders' Conference.

Objectives

  • Delineate pilot segments from Betin to Bethlehem and from Bethlehem to Hebron.
  • Facilitate international guided tours on the opened segment and run day tours and weekend excursions for Palestinian youth.
  • Identify community needs and potential economic opportunities.
  • Establish Palestine as a major destination for pilgrims, cultural and environmental tourists.
  • Promote international understanding of Palestinian culture and highlight the country's natural beauty.
