Results to Date:

  • In June 2008, 16 university students from the UK and Jordan pioneered the first experiment in eco-tourism, and cross-cultural exchange on the Abraham Path.

    Experience the Leeds Metropolitan and Yarmouk University exchange on the Abraham Path.


  • 80 km of trail is mapped, way marked, and endorsed by local communities in the northern highlands.
  • The 9,000 inhabitants of the three villages that host the Abraham Path have been empowered to promote and protect their natural heritage sites.
  • More than 35 village families have benefited economically through the provision of hospitality and other services to travelers.
  • The Jordan team has developed an active network of community members and villages, resulting in generous local support.

Objectives for 2009

  • Expand the current pilot segment to include the Byzantine mosaics and Ayyubid era mosque at Tel Mar Elias.
  • Train and certify local guides and tour operators.
  • Conduct research and catalogue cultural and historic attractions.
  • Assemble and lead local tours for students.
  • Mobilize outreach campaign, including the production of publications, brochures, media kit, and tour evaluations.
