Results to Date:
- In June 2008, 16 university students from the UK and Jordan
pioneered the first experiment in eco-tourism, and cross-cultural
exchange on Abraham's Path.
Experience the Leeds Metropolitan and Yarmouk University exchange on the Abraham Path.
- 80 km of trail is mapped, and a shorter section is way marked and endorsed by local communities in the northern highlands.
- Some 3,000 people have walked this section - known as the Al Ayoun Trail.
- The 9,000 inhabitants of the three villages that host the Al Ayoun Trail have been empowered to promote and protect their natural
heritage sites.
- More than 35 village families have benefited economically
through the provision of hospitality and other services to
travelers.
- The Jordan team has developed an active network of community
members and villages, resulting in generous local support.
Objectives
- Expand the current pilot segment to include the Byzantine
mosaics and Ayyubid era mosque at Tel Mar Elias.
- Train and certify local guides and tour operators.
- Conduct research and catalogue cultural and historic attractions.
- Assemble and lead local tours for students.
- Mobilize outreach campaign, including the production of
publications, brochures, media kit, and tour evaluations.
